Louie Vito is on a mission!

Louie sent me over this clip of him training today at Copper Mountain. For those who don’t know, Copper is the first stop of the US Grand Prix series, which is also the US Olympic Qualifiers for Halfpipe. There are 5 Grand Prix in total, so its going to be a battle to see who will be our 2010 Olympic team. As you can tell by the video, Louie is out to kill, he is putting down this double frontside cork with ease. We are rooting for you Louie!

Videograss’, self-titled, debut release might have caught a few people by surprise. The hand picked crew was made without any sponsor bias or worries about money. Mikey/Darrell/Nima chose a crew of their friends that they enjoyed watching snowboard and threw them all into one video. Everyone in the crew are actually friends and bring their own personal twist to an intensely skate influenced video. The current cliches surrounding snowboard videos are non existent with Videograss. They ditched the idea of cable cams, dolly shots, techno music, and helicopter on helicopter action…and instead stuck with raw snowboarding, real personality, good tunes, plenty of fisheyes, and no slow-mo bullshit. If you are looking for an honest snowboard video that you can actually relate to, then pick up a copy and enjoy.

Hannah and Spy meet alas!!!!

Yesterday Spy met up with Hawaiian Bombshell Winner Hannah to enjoy some delicious ahi in Honolulu & congratulate her in person…Spy presented Hannah with a congratulatory plaque for being chosen to participate in the up coming Spy photo shoot.

Hannah is set to start shooting this Saturday at Log Cabins along with Spy surfers, Alana Blanchard and Erika Steiner.



After dropping Hannah off , the sun decided to do some amazing things on the way out to the North Shore….

10 Fragen an SPY Rider Benjamin Deeg

Snowboard-Profi Benjamin Deeg steht auf Surfen, Skaten, Reisen und Partys. Im Interview erzählt er uns, welche Rider seiner Meinung nach den Sport pushen und warum ihm sein peinlichstes Erlebnis gar nicht so peinlich war.

Was machst Du, wenn Du nicht gerade Snowboard fährst?

Mountainbiken, surfen, skaten, party, reisen und arbeiten.

Erzähl uns von Deinen Anfängen im Snowboarden?

Wie bist Du dazu gekommen?Als kleines Ski-Kid habe ich ein paar Snowboarder in der Pipe gesehen, von dem Moment an wusste ich, dass ich Snowboarden will. Dann habe ich meine Eltern so lange genervt, bis sie mich in einen Kurs gesteckt haben. Das war 1995 - long time ago.

Was sagen Deine Eltern dazu?

Meine Eltern waren anfangs gar nicht begeistert. Aber was sollten sie machen, bei mir war es Liebe auf den ersten Blick. Nachdem es dann bei mir immer besser lief, auch mit Contests und so, haben sie mich sehr unterstützt. Vielen Dank an dieser Stelle auch an meinen Dad, für die unzähligen Stunden damals im Auto auf dem Weg zu Contests und in Skigebiete und natürlich danke für die Unterstützung. Und vielen Dank auch an meine Ma, für das Verständnis und die Unterstützung daheim.

Gibt es Vorbilder? Was macht für dich einen „herausragenden“ Snowboarder aus?

Vorbilder was Snowboarden angeht sind sicher so Jungs wie Travis Rice, Gigi Rüf oder Danny Davis. Die Jungs pushen das Level im Snowboarden jedes Jahr und sind sicher herausragende Fahrer. Für mich macht einen herausragenden Fahrer vor allem Vielseitigkeit und Style aus.

Ziele für diese Saison? Ziele überhaupt?

Gibt es etwas das Du unbedingt noch machen willst?

Ziel diese Saison...hmm...so viel Spaß, wie möglich zu haben. Ziel überhaupt: gesund bleiben und jeden Tag genießen. Was ich unbedingt noch machen will? Da gibt es vieles, aber zwei Dinge die ich sicher noch machen will, sind einmal nach Hawaii zum Surfen und nach Alaska zum Snowboarden.

Wo siehst Du das Snowboarden in 10 Jahren? Und wo siehst Du dich persönlich?
Snowboarden in zehn Jahren? Ich würde sagen, Freestyle wird wieder mehr aus den Parks ins Backcountry getragen und ich persönlich sehe mich bei einem Meter frischem Powder an einem großen, unverspurten Hang einen fetten Turn ziehen.

Rituale: Wie bereitest Du Dich auf einen Wettkampf vor? Gibt es Glücksbringer? Quellen der Inspiration, Unterstützung?

Ich fahr eigentlich gar nicht mehr so viele Contests. Damals hab ich am Abend vorher mein Snowboard gewachst, wenn man das als Ritual bezeichnen will. Glücksbringer gibt es keine. Eine Quelle der Inspiration kann für mich so vieles sein: ein cooler Spot, Natur, Familie und Freunde.

Was war -gefühlt- dein größter Erfolg? Was deine größte Niederlage?
Letzte Saison fast ausschließlich an meinem Hausberg zu fahren, fand ich ziemlich gut und war wohl mein gefühlt größter Erfolg. Verletzungen sind für mich immer wie eine Niederlage und die schlimmste war bisher, mir mitten in der Saison meinen Arm zu brechen. Allerdings bin ich zwei Tage nachdem ich den Gips bekommen hatte, gleich wieder gefahren.

Was war das Peinlichste, was Du je erlebt hast?
Ich bin mal mit einem Freund "geflitzt", das war ziemlich lustig und vielleicht auch ein bisschen peinlich, obwohl ich es wieder machen würde. Wie sieht ein Wochenende ohne Snowboard aus? Und was machst du den Sommer über?Ein Wochenende ohne Snowboarden verbringe ich hauptsächlich mit meinen Freunden und meiner Familie, helfe meinen Großeltern oder Freunden ein bisschen und relaxe. Den Sommer über geh ich hauptsächlich surfen.
